Most play therapists go to conferences and/or read play therapy books to learn new techniques, to find play therapy strategies they can use with their clients. Don’t come to this workshop if that is what you want. Come to this workshop to unleash your own creativity so that you can learn to give yourself permission to create your own play therapy techniques customized to your particular clients. Just bring yourself and your thoughts about kids you might be feeling bored or stuck with; your insecurities about strategies you want to try but are afraid they won’t work; your willingness to play, laugh and have fun. I will provide lots of materials, a bunch of ideas, help with conceptualizing just what is going on with your clients and what they might need next, and an atmosphere filled with permission to create, mess up, experiment, think, fail, and be more free in the play room than you have been....maybe ever.

Learning Objectives–Participants will be able to:

1. Describe 3 ways they have held themselves back from inventing their own play therapy techniques.

2. Increase their willingness to give themselves permission to invent their own play therapy techniques.

3. Invent play therapy techniques designed for specific clients and articulate how these techniques will benefit those clients.

4. Take techniques developed by other play therapists, adapt them to the particular needs of specific clients, and articulate how these techniques will benefit those clients.

5. Systematically conceptualize clients as a part of the process of developing and customizing play therapy techniques.
